About Sugo Design

The question “What is design?” is worth asking. It serves as a kind of barometer of expectations for working together. After 20+ years of working in various design, creative, and planning capacities, we’ve learned the value of meeting people where they are, at certain points in time. Our work is about good problem-solving over time. Productive dialogue starts with describing design as a tool for progressing through a series of decisions. By this definition, design becomes about visual strategies for creating experiences. Every choice made is a step toward making more content accessible to the consumers of your content. Graphic design and creative direction are two of many instruments in our tool bag. A good visual strategist works toward accessible, inclusive, democratized, and ultimately human solutions. A good problem-solver recognizes developing patterns and strong relationships to leverage those quality solutions again and again. We have diverse workplace experience: financial services, nonprofits, media/publishing, professional services, and many other sectors. Varied experiences mean we value the inherent efficiencies in a creative approach to workflow strategy. Moving a design project from concept to production in one workplace doesn’t (shouldn’t) look the same in another workplace. A creative approach involves qualitative and quantitative research. A creative approach recognizes that strong communication throughout the process is critical to meet deadlines—and evolve expectations. We focus a significant portion of our practice on the perfecting of flexible brand identity systems. From small creative enterprises to publicly traded Fortune 500 companies, all organizations need visual devices to help communicate priorities. Flexible identity systems can walk the line between company and consumer, influencing culture on both sides. On the most basic level, we are leaders, but it’s our passion for building diverse teams and mentoring that drives us.
