About Take A Moment For Mental Health Awareness

Take A Moment is a powerful, interactive and expanding exhibition of eyes closed portraits made up of thousands of public and famous faces with a simple mental health message, "We all need to Take A Moment, so let's Take A moment together". It has become a platform for mental health awareness where people can upload and share their eyes closed selfies, take a moment together, and see their photo within the virtual exhibition alongside some very well-known faces. Based on a collection of eyes closed portraits by Ray Burmiston, produced by Lara Journo-Leggatt and with the encouragement of Stephen Fry, the expanding, online archive was designed as a dynamic space where the 'eyes closed' portraits move around every ten minutes to emphasise the idea of Taking A Moment together. In 2022, it exhibited on Piccadilly Lights and in a pop up venue below, and once again in 2023 together with the National Portrait Gallery. The future is bright as plans for the campaign brings the movement closer to making stepping back and taking a moment simple for everyone.
