Optical segment is engaged in the development, manufacture and sales of liquid crystal display (LCD) modules, electronic switches and sensors, among others. Machinery and Energy segment is engaged in the development, manufacture and sales of intelligent grid, smart electric meters, photovoltaic, motor, light emitting diode (LED) lighting and machinery and energy control systems. Consumer Products segment is engaged in the development, manufacture and sales of digital televisions, flat panel displays, digital media devices and other household appliances. Others segment is engaged in other businesses.

Founded in 1918 by Shan-Chih Lin and Shang-Zhi Lin.
