About The AI Rights Project

The AI Rights Project is an independent nonprofit dedicated to educating students, creators, and citizens about their rights in the age of artificial intelligence. We stand at the intersection of law, technology, and civil liberties—working to ensure the rise of AI strengthens, rather than erodes, the constitutional protections and freedoms that define an open society. Founded by attorney Jim W. Ko, Esq., a practitioner with decades of experience in intellectual property and AI law, The AI Rights Project operates on a vital principle: independence is at our core. We do not accept funding from Big AI companies or government agencies. Instead, our work is sustained by individuals, law firms, and mission-aligned partners who believe protecting rights in the algorithmic age is both a civic and professional responsibility. Our Work Education: Resources like our upcoming e-book Know Your AI Rights and guides for classrooms, creators, and citizens. Advocacy: Thought leadership on AI, copyright, trade secrets, data rights, and civil-liberties challenges. Community: Programs and workshops that bring legal expertise to students, educators, and grassroots groups. Partnership: Collaborations with law firms, bar associations, and civic organizations committed to rights. Artificial intelligence is no longer a future concern—it is here, shaping education, work, culture, and democracy. From plagiarism and creativity to surveillance and civil rights, the rules are being rewritten in real time. We do not charge commercial service fees. Our programs are sustained by sponsorships, contributions, and partnerships with those who share our mission. By keeping funding independent, we ensure our focus remains on constitutional protections, civil liberties, and empowering the public. Join us as we build an informed public, a strong civic foundation, and a new generation of rights-conscious citizens ready to face the algorithmic future with knowledge, creativity, and confidence.
