About The Arc of Katy

The Arc of Katy is a nonprofit organization that helps conquer social isolation that people diagnosed with intellectual and developmental disorders (IDD) often experience. We deliver high-quality, safe, healthy, meaningful, and affordable opportunities for social enrichment, recreation, life-long learning, skills development and community service for people diagnosed with Autism spectrum disorders, Down Syndrome, and other forms of IDD. We operate a day program for adults with IDD, summer day camps for teens and adults with IDD, and an online enrichment program for those not able to attend in-person. We host social events for teens and adults with IDD. Our program participants enjoy experiences with friends, visit area attractions, participate in local events, engage in healthy activities, and contribute to community’s wellbeing through service projects. Parents and other caregivers appreciate and trust that their loved ones can enjoy happy, safe and healthy activities with peers that are facilitated by The Arc of Katy’s caring staff and volunteers. The need for programs and services for people with IDD is growing in our community. Texas has one of the nation’s largest populations of individuals with disabilities yet ranks near the bottom in funding for needed services. More than 126,000 Texans remain on waitlists for home and community-based supports—many waiting over a decade. The Arc of Katy service area extends across Fort Bend, Harris and Waller counties of Texas and has projected significant population growth. Local school districts expect increased need for school and community programs for youth and teens with IDD, and to support adults with IDD when they graduate or age out of high school. Adults with IDD often are left isolated at home leading to mental health, cognitive and physical decline. Our mission is to provide opportunities that enable people with IDD to be included as respected, active members of our community throughout their lifetimes.
