About The BTS Center

With roots dating back to 1814, The BTS Center is a private foundation in Portland, Maine, building on the legacy of the former Bangor Theological Seminary. Although no longer a degree-awarding institution, today The BTS Center seeks to catalyze spiritual imagination, with enduring wisdom, for transformative faith leadership by offering theologically grounded programs of continuing education and spiritual formation, including workshops and retreats, learning cohorts, public conversations, and projects of applied research. Inspired by the vision of human hearts renewed, justice established, and creation restored, we are focusing much of our programmatic attention on equipping faith leaders — ordained and non-ordained, clergy and laypersons, leaders of traditional religious communities and other communities of practice — with the knowledge, skills, mindsets, and practices that are needed for effective and faithful ministry in this moment marked by the dual urgencies of a changing religious landscape and a global climate crisis. We invite you to join us on a journey of discovery and exploration at the intersection of spiritual leadership and ecological imagination. We are collaborative, committed to partnering with others in the pursuit of synergy, strength, and sustainability. We invite you to be a companion. We are evolutionary, adapting to the changing religious and spiritual landscapes we inhabit. We welcome you to grow with us. We are revolutionary, listening for the Spirit of God, and boldly exploring what it means to practice an earth-honoring, theologically grounded, future-oriented faith. We encourage you to help us discover fresh paths.
