About The Cooperation Band SC040648

The band’s core aim is to share the art of brass bands with as many as people as possible, whilst supporting musical development of people both in and outside of the band The brass band movement has a history of over 200 years in Great Britain, and since the earliest days of the movement, a brass band has been a local focal point for communities to come together through music, to have pride in ‘their’ band at competitions, and to have a place to learn an instrument if they so wished. At “the co” we believe that involvement with a brass band enriches lives in a meaningful way. The band is made up of 35 musicians aged from 17-70 and all musicians and members of the committee are unpaid volunteers, coming together to make music because of a shared love and feeling of community. One big part of our activities is participating in contests across the UK and further afield. Contesting is a huge part of the brass band tradition, and as mentioned, we have achieved great success in 2024 in this way, as Scottish Brass Band Champions, Fife Festival of Brass Champions, and top 10 placings British Open, National Champions of Great Britain & Brass in Concert. We perform between 30-35 engagements per year and reach audiences in excess of 20,000 people. Several of these engagements are fundraising events for other charities, such as Beatson Hospice in Glasgow as we believe that it is so important to support and actively engage with our local community. Additionally, at all self-promoted concerts we provide free tickets for young people aged 16 and under in order to provide access to music for our local youth. In recent years the band has undertaken several prestigious engagements to bring the joy of brass bands to new audiences. In 2024, the cooperation band performed for the BBC on Mrs Browns Boys and Netflix’s Lockerbie. The band has also developed close links with the internationally acclaimed Wallace Collection and recorded amazing new original works for brass band.
