Diplomatic Village Limited was founded and licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria in 2010, to operate the first in-country duty-free shop . Officially launching in Abuja in February 2023, members of the diplomatic community (diplomatic corps, expatriates, foreign envoys and visiting diplomats) can now purchase goods duty/VAT-free for personal use. This forms part of the trade privileges and protocols reached at the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961.
