About The Fort Museum

At the Fort Museum of the North-West Mounted Police & First Nations Interpretive Centre, history isn’t just something you read about — it’s something you can engage with, discover for yourself, and step into as a living story. Located in Fort Macleod, Alberta, the museum preserves and shares the legacy of the North-West Mounted Police while working in partnership to honour and present Blackfoot history, culture, and perspectives through our Blackfoot Gallery. Our site features authentic indoor exhibits and outdoor buildings that bring the past to life in an immersive and meaningful way. As the home of the original Musical Ride, first performed here in 1876, we offer a unique connection to one of Canada’s most recognized traditions. Visitors can experience guided tours, interactive programming, and seasonal events that make history accessible for all ages. We are proud to offer engaging school programs, including our award-winning Red Coat program, designed to inspire learning through participation and storytelling. New this year, visitors can step into the boots of a NWMP recruit at our Barracks location and be guided through the recruitment experience, adding a new layer of hands-on discovery to their visit. Beyond exhibits, the Fort is also a vibrant community space. We host facility rentals, including a historic church ideal for weddings and special events, and offer photography bookings within our unique heritage setting. With 7 horses, 5 friendly goats, and a passionate team dedicated to authentic storytelling, the Fort Museum continues to evolve as a year-round destination for education, tourism, and community connection.
