About The Georgetown University Art Galleries

The Georgetown University Art Galleries comprise three distinct exhibition spaces within the Edmund A. Walsh Building on Georgetown’s Main Campus: the Maria & Alberto de la Cruz Art Gallery and the Lucille M. & Richard F.X. Spagnuolo Galleries. The de la Cruz Art Gallery, our flagship venue, opened in 2018 to present temporary exhibitions by pioneering contemporary artists. The exhibitions engage with themes that align with the University’s mission and Jesuit values, including social justice, cross-cultural exchange, and global awareness. These spaces serve as intellectual and creative hubs for the University, supporting a wide range of departments and initiatives while welcoming a diverse public audience. Through rotating exhibitions and programs, the Galleries pose critical questions, promote cross-disciplinary learning, inspire dialogue, and challenge long-held assumptions. Since the opening of the de la Cruz Gallery, Georgetown University Art Galleries has earned critical acclaim for presenting impactful exhibitions by artists such as Jeffrey Gibson, Glenn Ligon, Kara Walker, Baseera Khan, and Hung Liu, among others. Together, the Galleries seek to promote cross-cultural understanding, advance social justice, broaden global consciousness, and create opportunities for audiences not only to view art but to engage with it in meaningful and memorable ways.
