About The Girls' Schools Association
The home of girls’ education since 1874. The Girls’ Schools Association is a network of 180+ headteachers leading outstanding independent and state girls’ schools across the UK. Together, we educate over 90,000 girls and shape girls’ education. What girls do when they’re put at the centre: They play 37% more sport. They pick Further Maths (2.9x more likely), Physics (2x) and Computer Science. They apply for engineering degrees at 40% higher rates. They achieve 20% higher A-Level grades than girls in co-ed schools. 50% of our alumnae go on to work in STEM, compared with 8% nationally. They grow up to be more confident, more resilient, and calmer under pressure. 80% of alumnae, parents and teachers agree girls wouldn’t develop the same confidence in a co-ed setting. A professional home for headteachers: the GSA is built for the people shaping girls’ education and provides conferences, professional development, leading research, and a unique confidential peer-to-peer roundtable where Heads navigate the hardest conversations together. In GSA membership no one leads alone. The GSA also informs the national conversation: on girls’ wellbeing, STEM participation, single-sex education and the policies shaping schools so that girls’ voices, and those who lead for them, are heard where it matters.
