About The Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (GRSI)
The Global Refugee Sponsorship Initiative (GRSI) is a unique multi-sectoral partnership to encourage and support the development of community sponsorship programs for refugees around the globe. The initiative is led by the Government of Canada, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), The Giustra Foundation, the Open Society Foundations, The Shapiro Foundation, the University of Ottawa Refugee Hub, Porticus, and Robert Bosch Stiftung. In partnership with local community leaders and government policymakers, we aim to: - Increase refugee resettlement opportunities and improve refugee integration outcomes by engaging governments, community groups, individuals, philanthropists, and businesses in resettlement efforts; - Strengthen local host communities that come together to welcome newcomers; - Promote welcoming and inclusive societies and improve the narrative about refugees and other newcomers. Since 2017, the GRSI has been active in over 25 countries and has inspired, seeded and supported over 30 sponsorship programs worldwide.
