About The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust

We are The Greater Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust (GMCT), a not-for-profit organisation managing 21 cemeteries and memorial parks across Melbourne's northern, eastern and western suburbs. We serve diverse communities across Melbourne by providing burial, cremation and memorial services that honour different cultural traditions and beliefs. Our work supports families and communities through the experience of death and grief with compassion and care. Established in 2010 under the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2003 (Vic), we're responsible for maintaining significant public assets and heritage sites, while planning sustainable infrastructure that will serve our communities for generations to come. From our historic 19th-century cemeteries to award-winning contemporary facilities, we balance heritage preservation with innovation in design, operations and environmental practices. As a statutory authority under the Victorian Department of Health, we're governed by a Trust Committee appointed by the Governor in Council. Our day-to-day operations are led by an executive team committed to sector leadership, sustainable practices, and delivering essential services with dignity and respect. We work and operate on the lands of the Bunurong and Wurundjeri People and acknowledge them as Traditional Owners. We pay respect to their Elders, past and present. Learn more: www.gmct.com.au
