Griffin was authorised as an insurance company in 1988. In the1980s many insurance brokers in the UK became concerned about the cost and availability of insurance to cover their professional liabilities. The decision was made to form a mutual to cover these risks. Griffin has no employees and has been managed since its inception by Tindall Riley & Company Ltd (specialist managers) who perform all the functions associated with running an insurance company on its behalf, including the handling of claims. Over and above operating as a well-run and cost-effective insurance mutual, Griffin provides (via Tindall Riley) valuable services that support the day to day activities of its Members. These services include risk management reviews, advice and the dissemination of guidance.
