About The Learning Community School

At The Learning Community School (TLC) in Swannanoa (near Asheville), North Carolina, we provide a vibrant, nurturing K–8 educational environment where children are inspired to become their best selves. Since our founding in 1996, TLC has blended rigorous academics with creative, hands-on learning, outdoor education, service learning, and the arts to meet the needs of each student. Our mission is to foster curiosity, creativity, resilience, and a conscious connection to nature and community—because we believe in educating the whole child. In our multi-age, experiential classrooms, students explore core subjects like language arts, math, science and social studies, alongside Spanish, visual & performing arts, outdoor education and TEAM—our community building and conflict-resolution model. TLC’s small class sizes and personalized approach allow each student to thrive academically, socially and emotionally. We believe learning should be meaningful, engaging and joyful. We welcome families looking for a school that values community, connection and purpose as much as academic excellence. Join us and discover how TLC cultivates confident, compassionate learners for tomorrow.
