About The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk
The Meadows Center for Preventing Educational Risk (MCPER) is the largest organized research unit in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin. Founded in 2008 with support from the Meadows Foundation, we unite experts in reading, writing, math, STEM, cognitive psychology, neuroscience, bilingual education, special education, and early childhood to improve outcomes for all students—especially those at risk. Since our founding, MCPER has secured over $280 million in funding and currently manages $90 million in active grants and contracts. MCPER conducts rigorous research, technical assistance, and program evaluation in areas such as autism, dyslexia, deaf education, English language learners, mathematics, science, and multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS). Our studies meet the highest evidence standards, and we lead nationally recognized initiatives like the Texas Reading Academies, Strong Foundations Framework, TIER, and the National Deaf Center on Postsecondary Outcomes. Through our strong dissemination network, we equip educators with proven strategies, high-quality professional development, and practical tools to make a lasting impact in schools and communities.
