The Neighborhood of Maryland, Inc., (“TNM”) is a charitable 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization for the benefit of adults with special needs. TNM was formed by parents of young adults with special needs who have reached the age of 21 years, when the social structure provided by school must be replaced and the challenge of identifying a suitable living situation “post Mom & Dad”. Individuals with special needs are unique and the “one size fits all approach” does not work. While most existing solutions cater to individuals with a high degree of independence, many of our constituents require 1:1 support at all times. In lieu of the traditional institutional solution, our constituents prefer self-direction. While not independent, our adults are intellectually aware and just like everyone, yearn for a variety of social interactions and relationships.
