About The Pedagogy Lab
The Pedagogy Lab is a collective of educators, artists, and scholars exploring how open education can be reimagined through marginalized perspectives. Our mission is to make open education not just accessible, but resonant with the communities that have always practiced openness, collaboration, and knowledge-sharing as a matter of survival and creativity. Much of the open education movement has been shaped by white institutional frameworks, which can overlook the radical, communal traditions already embedded in Black, Indigenous, and queer epistemologies. We work to bridge that gap by introducing marginalized students and scholars to open education as a field that already speaks to their ethos– just often in a different language. Through our fellowship model, we support the creation of OER that broadens what “counts” as an open educational resource. Instead of textbooks, our fellows create projects like our audio shorts series, art and media for the Executive Dis/Order public art initiative, and our open access speculative games project. These outputs expand the aesthetics and genres of OER, bringing in forms that are more culturally and politically grounded in the communities we serve. Ultimately, The Pedagogy Lab aims to diversify both the people who shape the open education movement and the forms that OER can take—expanding the field’s imagination of what open knowledge looks and sounds like when led by people of color, queer thinkers, and other marginalized creators.
