About The Porter Voice Collective

The Porter Voice Collective (PVC) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing workforce equity and human rights across the global mountain tourism industry. We amplify the voices of the people who power trekking and mountaineering experiences — from porters and guides to local support staff — ensuring their stories are heard, their rights protected, and their contributions recognized. Our work combines advocacy, education via storytelling and research to transform tourism practices, promote fair labor standards, gender equity, labor and human rights, and challenge systemic inequities in high-altitude tourism. Our first initiative, the award-winning documentary KM 82: The Porter Voices of Peru’s Camino Inca, highlighted the untold experiences of porters on one of the world’s most iconic trekking routes, setting the foundation for our ongoing global efforts. PVC operates in Peru, Nepal, Tanzania, and beyond, collaborating with local communities, tourism leaders and travelers to create a more equitable and just trekking industry. Through programs, partnerships, and awareness campaigns, we aim to ensure that those who carry the world’s mountains are not left behind. Our mission: To center the voices of mountain tourism workers, drive workforce equity, and build a sustainable, inclusive future for the industry.
