About The Rebecca L. Cooper Medical Research Foundation
The Rebecca L. Cooper Medical Research Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation that has awarded over $48.5 million since 1984 to fund medical research in Australia. The Foundation is the legacy of Rebecca L. Cooper who generously bequeathed her substantial property portfolio to promote and advance medical research in Australia. As a niche funder, we aim to fill funding gaps that are not sufficiently provided for by federal funding bodies. Our current funding priorities are early- and mid-career researchers; and the following fields of research: - Brain Sciences (excluding MND and Dementia); - Endocrinology (excluding Diabetes); - Geriatrics (excluding Dementia); - Dermatology (excluding Skin Cancer); - Rheumatology; - Non-Cancerous Lung Disease (excluding COVID-19) - Vision Sciences We run two annual funding schemes: 1. The Al & Val Rosenstrauss Fellowship provides early-career researchers $1million in funding over 5 years. 2. The Rebecca Cooper Fellowship provides mid-career researchers $1.5million in funding over 5 years. Going forward, the Foundation is particularly committed to funding discovery science, an underfunded area of medical research which we view as a pipeline to ensuring that Australia stays at the forefront of medical research worldwide.
