About The Ron Raffaelli Archives

Ron Raffaelli (1943–2016) was a renowned photographer best known for his iconic images of Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Doors, and many other major figures of 1960s and ’70s rock music. His ability to capture raw emotion and stage presence earned him a place among the most respected visual chroniclers of that era. Raffaelli was personally selected by Jimi Hendrix to be his exclusive photographer in the fall of 1968. This partnership resulted in a body of work that includes more than 2,000 images of Hendrix—widely regarded as one of the most intimate and extensive photographic records of the artist’s life and career. Over the course of his career, Raffaelli amassed an archive of thousands of images, documenting not just musicians but cultural shifts and intimate human expression. His style was both powerful and poetic, blending a deep technical knowledge of photography with a profound understanding of his subjects. Beyond concert photography, Ron’s work encompassed commercial, fine art, experimental imagery, and erotic fine art. His photographs appeared in major publications and were exhibited internationally. His collection has been featured in multiple retrospectives and publications and several books are currently in production, which will showcase his Iconic Images along with untold stories from behind the lens. Ron Raffaelli’s work is a cornerstone of rock-and-roll visual history, and his photographs continue to inspire new generations of artists, musicians, and fans.
