About The Rubbish Film Festival

The Rubbish Film Festival is a multi award-winning environmental media initiative empowering young people to explore sustainability through creative digital storytelling. Working primarily with Transition Year students across Ireland, we combine environmental education with hands-on skills in filmmaking, video production, and media literacy. Students are challenged to turn complex issues such as climate action, waste reduction, biodiversity, and responsible consumption into powerful one-minute films that inform, inspire, and drive change. Delivered in partnership with schools, Local Authorities, national agencies, and industry sponsors, the Festival has engaged thousands of students nationwide and is firmly established as a valued part of the school year. Our work aligns closely with the UN Sustainable Development Goals and Ireland’s Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) strategy. Alongside the Festival, we develop innovative programmes including the Creative Media Passport, supporting teachers and students with accredited, future-focused digital media learning pathways. - Education meets creativity - Sustainability through storytelling - Supporting schools, teachers, and young creators Discover how we’re helping the next generation use media as a force for positive environmental change.
