About The SAM Initiative

The SAM Initiative, a fund of the Jewish Community Foundation of Los Angeles (JCF), is a giving circle whose mission is to serve as a catalyst to improve the lives of women, children, and families in Los Angeles through engaged philanthropy. We educate and engage donors by investing in nonprofit organizations that reflect our passions and address the most pressing needs in our community. As a giving circle, we pool our financial resources and expertise to drive social change and nonprofit sustainability. Since our founding in 2013, SAM has given over $3.5 million in grants to the community, and our influential collective spirit and network reaches far beyond the grants. SAM’s impact has a ripple effect that is exponentially greater than the dollar amounts of our grants. Our gifts inspire others to give, and help organizations expand at critical points in their growth. SAM members share the passion to learn about needs in the community, vet different organizations, and choose how their funding can make the most meaningful difference.
