About The STEP Alliance
The Step Alliance is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering students from under-resourced communities through free, high-quality virtual tutoring and life skills education. Founded in 2019 by a high school senior, the organization was built on the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their zip code or economic status. Our unique model pairs students with trained near-peer mentors for weekly or as-needed academic support and mentoring. These mentors are high-achieving local high school students who earn Bright Futures credit for their work with us. The goal is that our students can see themselves in their mentor. Each session concludes with a short, structured life skills component that covers essential topics like financial literacy, emotional wellness, goal setting, and communication. This holistic approach addresses not only academic needs but also the personal development skills students need to thrive in and out of school. Our program continues to grow in both scale and vision. With the support of community partners, we aim to revamp and invest in centralized, easy- to use platforms that ensure long-term sustainability, accessibility, and reduces expenses. Our long-term goals are to expand our services to high school and college-aged students, and to recruit college-aged mentors. The Step Alliance remains committed to delivering high-impact educational support where it’s needed most, and we invite you to be part of that mission.
