About The Victoria Cross and George Cross Association
The Victoria Cross and George Cross Association (VC & GC Association) is a registered charity (Charitable Incorporated Organisation No 1162742). Originally founded as a Members' Association in 1956, but tracing its origins back to 1920, its members are the living recipients of the United Kingdom's two highest awards, the VC and the GC, awarded "For Valour" and "For Gallantry" respectively. The objects of the charity are five-fold: - to provide financial assistance to individual holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and their dependants and descendants who are in need because of financial hardship or distress, or at risk of financial hardship or distress or of falling into poverty including without limitation financial assistance for educational purposes; - to promote the efficiency of the Armed Forces and the police, fire, rescue and ambulance services and to encourage civic responsibility and good citizenship by honouring and supporting holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and their dependants and descendants; - to restore and/or erect the graves of and memorials associated with holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross; - to educate the public on matters relating to the Victoria Cross and George Cross; and - to advance such other purposes that are exclusively charitable according to the laws of England and Wales as the Charity Trustees in their absolute discretion think fit, having particular regard to the needs of holders of the Victoria Cross and George Cross and their dependants and descendants.
