About Tiroler Krebsforschungsinstitut (TKFI)
The Tyrolean Cancer Research Institute (TKFI) is a private initiative of the charity association "Verein zur Förderung der Krebsforschung in Tirol". It was founded in 2000 by em. Prof. Raimund Margreiter and HR Hubert Kuprian, and is a unique institution in Austria for funding, research questions, and organization. The institute's running costs are covered only by donations and nationally and internationally peer-reviewed research proposals, with financing coming from the Tiroler Landeskrankenanstalten GmbH and donations from Tyrolean industry and the public. The TKFI's primary goal is cancer research that is directly linked to clinical application. The institute achieves this by fostering teamwork between theoretically and clinically working researchers. The work at the TKFI supports local translational cancer research at The Medical University of Innsbruck and Leopold-Franzens-Universität.
