About Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness (TCEP)
For over 30 years, the Topanga Coalition for Emergency Preparedness (TCEP) — an all-volunteer, non-profit 501(c)(3) — has provided emergency preparedness education and real-time disaster updates to Topanga and surrounding communities. During emergencies like wildfires and floods, TCEP volunteers compile incident information directly from first responders and agencies, including LA County Fire, Sheriff, CHP, CalTrans, Edison, and Public Works, and share verified updates on the web at tcep.org/emergencystatus and social media @TCEP90290. We also operate a 24/7 telephone hotline at (310)-455-3000. During a disaster, if power is out, the TCEP Disaster Radio Team transmits 5-minute emergency updates at the top of each hour over FRS radio channel 15. Our Neighborhood Network program helps small groups of households build local communication plans, emergency evacuation strategies, and disaster readiness — including assembling emergency kits and understanding the importance of home hardening. TCEP also co-chairs the Topanga Emergency Management Task Force (TEMTF) with LA County’s Office of Emergency Management. TEMTF is developing a community emergency management plan for Topanga, serving as a model for other LA County communities. TCEP is actively seeking volunteers. Visit tcep.org/volunteer to get involved. We rely on donations to keep things running. Visit tcep.org/donate.
