About Untame research collective

Untame is a collective for engaged scholars, thinkers and doers. We study and advance paradigm shifts in the era of ecological crisis. We make visible the root causes and support community activities that tackle them. *paradigm shifts* Although we already know a lot about the ecological crisis, the amount of knowledge has not led to significant changes in the institutions maintained by people in the global North. *economy, work & livelihoods* Economy and livelihoods are diverse, and some work is invisible. However, the economy is usually talked about as a separate area of activity, subject to its own laws. *biodiversity* We are currently living in the midst of the sixth mass extinction, with species disappearing from the world hundreds or even thousands of times faster than would occur without human impact. When a species goes extinct, it can never be brought back. This loss of biodiversity, or ecological crisis, is a problem that is even more significant and long-lasting for the future of our planet than climate change or any of humanity’s other crises. Collectively, we search for solutions to halt the loss of biodiversity. *land use* In land relations, understanding of human’s relationship with the Earth is formed through scientific knowledge and sensory experiences. Economic activity is dependent on land and its use. People use and modify the soil in one way or another for food production, technological industries, renewable energy sources, and forestry. Untame is founded by Eeva Houtbeckers and Galina Kallio.
