About Weatherizers Without Borders

Our organization started with the vision of adapting a successful US public policy, the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP), designed to subsidize weatherization services for low-income households. Seeing the need for public policy programs such as WAP outside of the US, specifically in Latin America, WWB was founded as a global partnership of expertise with the goal of expanding weatherization programs to communities that stand to benefit. Our Mission is to develop weatherization programs around the world, collaborating with governments, NGOs, and private stakeholders to build successful sustainable home improvement policies that address local needs of low-income communities across the globe. We want to create a world where adequate and affordable housing is a universal right, and everyone has access to sustainable housing that supports their health, safety, quality of life, and efficient use of resources. Our organization works to create a forum for weatherization and home sustainability knowledge and innovations of like-minded agencies and professionals. We work together to develop weatherization ecosystems and piliot projects, which then turn into programs that generate or improve sustainable home improvement public policies in different cities and countries. Benefits of weatherization come in the form of improved health outcomes, energy efficiency, and money saved. Weatherization works as an indirect way of promoting upward social mobility, alleviating poverty, and combatting climate change.
