About Whatsthis Studios

At Whatsthis Studios, we believe light is not just a tool — it's a storyteller. We are an independent lighting design studio that works at the intersection of architecture, interiors, and experience. With a deep sensitivity to space, atmosphere, and human emotion, our designs respond to the soul of a place — not just its function. From smoky jazz bars and bustling restaurants to intimate homes and quiet facades, we create lighting narratives that evolve with time and context. Our process is collaborative, hands-on, and driven by curiosity. We ask questions, explore materials, and immerse ourselves in the architectural language of every project. We do not sell light fixtures — we design ambience with them. We do not chase trends — we chase meaning. We are not here to add brightness — we’re here to shape darkness. Based in India, with roots in global design thinking, Whatsthis Studios is a young, agile team passionate about crafting moments in light.
