About When African Women Talk

When African Women Talk (WAWT) was founded in 2018 to provide a supportive network of professional and business women from diverse industries whose focus is to develop and support the leadership potential of women of African descent in Canada and influence social change. Through education, awareness, advocacy and mentoring, WAWT strives to improve the economic, employment, political and social conditions for all women of African descent aged 35 and up. WAWT works to promote and develops the business, professional and leadership potential of women of African descent on all levels through advocacy, education, mentoring, networking, skill-building, and economic empowerment programs and projects. Canadian Women of African Descent are Canadian-born or immigrants who identify as Black, Mixed, African, Caribbean, West Indies, and People of color. WAWT is cognisant of the important issues that affect Canadian Women of African descent such as equal pay, gender equality, work-life balance, inclusive innovation, governance, entrepreneurship, investment opportunities, trade, and access to capital. WAWT provides support for these women in our community through programs and events that empower them to participate equally in existing markets, acting as directors on boards, as venture capitalists, entrepreneurs, business leaders, and as meaningful participants at all levels of decision-making. Through its networking events, WAWT provides Canadian Women of African descent privileged access to inspiring and renowned speakers that contribute to their education and development in terms of governance and other important related topics that will support them on their career path and entrepreneurial journey.
