About Zaklada Ana Rukavina

Ana Rukavina Foundation is a non-profit organization that works on expanding the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry. Ana Rukavina Foundation began its noble work in late 2006, early 2007 soon after Ana sadly passed away. For a year and a half she bravely fought acute myeloid leukemia but unfortunately left us on November 26, 2006. After her unfortunate departure, her family, mother, Marija Rukavina and sister, Gordana Leto, now director and members of the Foundation's Board of Trustees, her doctor Mirando Mrsić and her newspaper media company Vjesnik, founded the Ana Rukavina Foundation with the money donated for her treatment abroad. Our mission is to conduct humanitarian and marketing activities with the goal to collect financial and other resources for the maintenance and expansion of the Croatian Bone Marrow Donor Registry and for the operation of the Ana Rukavina Public Cord Blood Bank, as well as professional training of young experts in the field of hematology, and other related specializations, and providing financial support to projects whose purpose is to research new treatment options for leukemia, lymphoma, and other serious bone marrow diseases. Thanks to Ana's legacy the Croatian Registry and Public Cord Blood Bank which carries her name, today are at the top of the World Marrow Donor Association considering the number of potential donors in the general population.
