About Zip Zap Circus

Zip Zap Circus is a social and professional circus founded in Cape Town in 1992, dedicated to empowering and uplifting young people through the transformative power of the circus arts. Entirely free of charge, Zip Zap currently reaches more than 2 000 students across nine programmes, providing beginner-to-professional level circus training, as well as safe environment for self-expression, personal development, and connection. Beyond circus performance, Zip Zap equips young people with a broad set of practical and professional skills - from rigging, lighting, and costume design to IT, first aid, dance, music, and technical stagecraft - preparing them for future employment within and beyond the creative sector. Through partnerships with individuals, corporations, foundations, and government bodies, Zip Zap ensures that access to its programmes remains free and inclusive. Recognised by the National Arts Council of South Africa as a leading institution in circus arts education, Zip Zap continues to bridge divides, build confidence, and nurture the next generation of South African talent.
