Full Stack Developer — Data Science Specialist (Internship to Permanent)

This is a remote position. Full Stack Developer — Data Science Specialist (Internship to Permanent) Biosecure ID Limited (BSID) is a forensic biotechnology company based at Alderley Park, Macclesfield, UK, working at the intersection of forensic genomics, molecular diagnostics, and open science. BSID is the commercial arm behind Science for Social Good CIC, the parent body of AGOSS (Applied Genomics Open-Source Software), our open-source bioinformatics community.

Biosecure ID Limited (BSID) is looking for one of its first employees: a Full Stack Developer to become our IT Lead. This is a builder's role at a genuine start-up — you'll set up and run our back-end technology stack, stand up MVPs with real deployment timelines, and act as the technical backbone for BSID and our open-source community, AGOSS (Applied Genomics Open-Source Software).

You'll work directly with the founding team and external partners (Microsoft, ZOHO, AWS, and bioinformatics companies) to take ideas from concept to launch, fast. Term: This role begins as a paid 3-month internship (pay details to be discussed, based on location). Successful completion leads to an offer of permanent employment.

You would be one of BSID's first employees — a genuine founding role with the scope and responsibility that comes with it.

What You'll Do

Act as BSID's Data Science Specialist — own our technology stack end to end, as employee #1 Own AWS architecture — design, deploy, and launch MVPs for trial. Lead administration during early phase Work directly with external partners (Microsoft, ZOHO, Salesforce, Amazon (AWS), and third-party bioinformatics companies) to develop and launch new products, with fast turnaround and disciplined document control Manage and provide back-end support for our open-source community, AGOSS Apply data science and AI methods (R, R Shiny, and related platforms) to real product and research problems Administer and configure Microsoft Office and ZOHO (all apps), and act as development lead on the back end Document your work in detail as you go — decisions, architecture, and processes, not just code Requirements Attitude & Mindset Genuine start-up mentality — comfortable with ambiguity, wearing many hats, and moving fast Enjoys experimenting, and documents what you try in enough detail that others can follow it Takes ownership: sees problems through to a working solution rather than handing them off Strong problem-solver with a bias toward getting things done Entrepreneurial, with a builder mindset — you want to make things exist, not just plan them Committed to ongoing learning and development Believes in open source and open science as a matter of principle, not just practice Knowledge, Skills & Qualifications Ideally UK-based and UK Passport holders Fresh Graduates (0-1 year) from Accredited UK Universities with BA, BSc, BTech, BEng in Computer Science, Mathematics or Data Science.

Academic achievement of 2-1 or higher. No diplomas or online certificates. Efficient coding skills (range of languages, tools and AI-assisted pathways) Strong administrator-level knowledge of Microsoft Office and ZOHO (all apps), and able to act as development lead on the ZOHO back end Full AWS administration and architecture experience, with a track record of launching MVPs for trial Proficient in R and R Shiny, plus familiarity with other data science platforms A strong academic foundation in mathematics and physics (assessed during screening) A solid grounding in AI and AI-based solutions Knowledge of biology and bioinformatics is beneficial but not essential A genuine belief in open source and open science All of the above will be evaluated during the screening and project task stages of the interview process.
