Job description

SUBTYPE was born in Sydney in 2014 as a destination for premium sneakers that blurred the lines between fashion and street. Evolving to its Melbourne flagship in 2019, SUBTYPE now curates a full collection of apparel and footwear from established and upcoming labels including Nike, New Balance, Salomon, ADER Error, Fear of God Essential, Entire Studios, Arc’teryx and our own exclusive SUBTYPE CURATED brand.

About the Role

We’re looking for an experienced Buyer to join the SUBTYPE team. Reporting to the Head of Merchandise, you’ll play a key role in shaping SUBTYPE’s product offering across premium footwear, apparel and lifestyle. You’ll combine strong commercial thinking with a sharp eye for product, brands and street culture to build relevant, commercially successful assortments.

What You’ll Do Develop seasonal buying strategies and financial plans with the Planner. Build commercially successful assortments across your brand portfolio. Use sales, customer, market and trend insights to shape the range. Partner with Planning on forecasting, inventory and Open to Buy. Manage assortment depth, size curves and product grading.

Stay across global fashion, footwear and streetwear trends, brands and product opportunities. Build strong relationships with global and local brand partners. Partner with Marketing and Retail on key launches, campaigns and brand moments. Bring customer and store insights back into the buying strategy. Present seasonal strategies, product direction and brand stories to key stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For Previous buying experience within premium fashion, footwear or streetwear. Strong commercial acumen and a proven ability to drive sales, profit and inventory performance. A strong understanding of product, brands, customers and street culture. Experience managing brand and supplier relationships.

Advanced Excel skills and confidence working with commercial data. Strong analytical, organisational and stakeholder management skills. A strong product and brand point of view balanced with commercial thinking. A proactive, curious mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-moving environment. A genuine passion for premium fashion, footwear, sneakers and street culture.
