Advanced Health Worker: Post Disaster Recovery (Identified First Nations) Organisation: Metro South Hospital and Health Service Location: 51 Wembley Road, Logan Central, Queensland Work arrangement: On site Employment type: Contract Pay rate: $40.45 Applications close: 9 August 2026 About the role Metro South Health is seeking an Advanced Health Worker to support culturally safe post-disaster mental health recovery for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary health team, the successful applicant will provide primary healthcare and recovery support grounded in culture and connection to Country and community.

Key responsibilities

Provide Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary healthcare within a multidisciplinary health team, in line with an approved scope of practice and healthcare plans. Provide culturally safe spaces for post-disaster mental health recovery, strengthening connection to Country, culture and community as sources of resilience.

Engage and communicate effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals, families and communities. Support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals and their immediate families to navigate the health system and maintain continuity of care. Contribute to quality improvement and research activities under the guidance of senior staff.

Work with other professionals to deliver education, health promotion programs and workshops in disaster-affected communities. Support First Nations peer workers, community leaders, government agencies and non-government organisations to improve access to recovery services through culturally appropriate pathways. Provide cultural support to other professionals, helping them strengthen their cultural capability and responsiveness when working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

Engage with community members to strengthen community participation in post-disaster mental health recovery and resilience-building activities. Participate in regular supervision and training to strengthen post-disaster recovery service delivery skills. Maintain documentation, records and health information in accordance with regulatory and funding body requirements.

Maintain confidentiality at all times. Deliver healthcare in accordance with the National Safety and Quality Health Service Standards in a culturally safe and respectful way. Fulfil the responsibilities of the role in accordance with Queensland Health’s core values. Treat patients and colleagues fairly and with mutual respect, regardless of cultural, religious, ethnic or linguistic background, gender, identity, age or ability.

Follow relevant service quality standards and workplace health and safety policies and procedures.

Qualifications

Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification. Certified copies of the required documents must be provided to the appropriate supervisor or manager before commencing clinical duties. Applicants must hold one of the following: Certificate IV in Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health; or Diploma of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care.

Applicants who do not currently hold the mandatory qualification but believe they have the knowledge, skills and capability to perform the role are encouraged to apply. They must be willing to complete the required qualification within an agreed timeframe if appointed. A successful applicant who does not yet hold the qualification will be employed at the no-qualification pay point until evidence of completion is provided.
