Job description

OEA represents more than 100,000 teachers, faculty members and support professionals in Ohio’s public schools, colleges, and universities to help improve public education and the lives of Ohio’s children. OEA members provide a wide range of professional education services in communities throughout the state. The Ohio Education Association (OEA) is seeking an Assistant Executive Director – Program to join the Executive Management Team.

This position works collaboratively to lead the development, alignment, and implementation of program strategies and organizational systems that expand the OEA’s capacity to deliver high-quality programs and services to the OEA and its affiliates. The successful candidate will be passionate about promoting public education and responsible for developing and implementing successful programming for members that builds the OEA brand and value of membership to members.

Additionally, this role will develop and nurture relationships with key stakeholders and partners, and support the financial and relational infrastructure that promotes the Association’s success and sustainability.

Essential Functions

Design and implement programming that promotes public education, changes the narrative around public education in Ohio, and the impact OEA members have in their communities. Serve as brand steward for OEA’s brand to cultivate and increase brand awareness at a local, state and national level. Develop and implement campaigns to align internal branding, communication and messaging to promote public education and the OEA brand.

In collaboration with the leadership team and Communications Department, draft and implement a communications plan to build on the value of membership and highlight the impacts OEA members have on their communities and the students they support. Provide leadership in creating sustainable funding avenues that ensure the organization’s long-term viability and growth.

This includes fundraising campaigns, donor relations, and strategic partnerships in alignment with the organization's mission and objectives. Foster relationship and partnerships in building broad coalitions to promote public education and members’ successes. Augment current work to provide programming for a diverse membership with a focus on increasing engagement with communities of color.

Promote the development, alignment, and operational implementation of the OEA’s programs and supporting systems that expand the capacity of the OEA to achieve its mission. Work in partnership with the Assistant Executive Director – Field & Government Relations, Executive Management Team, and other appropriate managers to promote integration of operations.

Oversee the development and delivery of OEA’s program services to its local affiliates with a strong focus on identifying and responding to the needs of affiliates and their members. Directly supervise designated program managers in a collaborative team environment and ensure that high-quality programs and services provided to the OEA’s affiliates and members are aligned with and successfully integrated into organizational operations.

In collaboration with the Executive Director and the Assistant Executive Director

  • Business Services, develop an annual budget for program operations, monitor expenditures, and adjust expenditures to stay within budget. Serve as a member of the OEA's management team and perform such management, supervisory, and administrative functions as may be assigned. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in education, marketing, communications, public administration or a related field; Master’s degree or other advanced degree preferred Three (3) years of progressive management experience with demonstrated ability to manage staff and maintain positive working relationships In-depth understanding of market research techniques, data analysis, and current industry trends Demonstrated knowledge of strategic planning principles and marketing best practices Familiarity with social media and web analytics Successful experience in program development, conflict management, group facilitation and community/labor organizing Demonstrated experience in strategic planning and the identification and implementation of best practices Ability to align business functions with strategic direction and foster organizational improvement Five (5) years of association staff experience preferred Required Knowledge, Skills, Ability: Knowledge of and ability to plan, implement and coordinate projects and activities and interactions within OEA for the purpose of increasing the capacity of OEA staff, governance and members to achieve the organization’s policies and goals.

Effective skills in supervision, decision-making, and negotiations Effective oral/written communications skills and presentation skills Proven ability in policy analysis and financial management Interpersonal relations, team building, and collaboration skills Demonstrated ability to develop and manage programs to build local capacity and achieve organizational goals Demonstrated sensitivity and commitment to a diverse and unionized workplace Strong work ethic and high-performance standards of excellence and personal integrity AUTHORITY AND RELATIONSHIPS Reports to the Executive Director.

Acts on behalf of the Executive Director to convene meetings, request progress reports and information, and facilitate the assignment of responsibilities and tasks to ensure the delivery of high-quality programs and services. Serves as a member of the Executive Management Team. Supervises Program managers and the daily operations of staff and others as required.

OTHER INFORMATION Salary is commensurate with experience. Fringe benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, health insurance, paid holidays and retirement plans, including 401(K). This position is a management position, exempt from the bargaining unit.
