Job Summary
To provide research and administrative support in the field of medical genetics and pediatrics to one principal investigator involved in international collaborative interdisciplinary research. Organizational Status The incumbent reports directly to Dr. Judith G. Hall and works with other faculty, co-investigators, trainees, graduate students, and staff related to ethics, projects, grants, and professional organizations.
Work Performed Performs literature searches using terms provided by the PI, retrieves publications, and adds references to draft manuscripts. Prepares and submits manuscripts, handles submission paperwork and correspondence, and maintains related records. Drafts correspondence and nomination or support letters, and prepares research presentations from written materials under the PI’s direction.
Maintains research publication and reference records, contact lists, and the PI’s academic CV. Organizes and prepares research documents for distribution. Consequence of Error/Judgement Errors or miscommunications could jeopardize relationships and collaborations with investigators, trainees, and subjects. Errors in reporting procedures, could result in a waste of financial resources, non-renewal of research funding, or loss of currently held funding.
Inadequate documentation, organization, communication, and planning may adversely affect the image and reputation of the investigator. Supervision Received This position will report to the Principal Investigator. Once oriented by the PI, job duties are carried out independently. Supervision Given None Minimum Qualifications High school graduation and a minimum one year of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree, preferably in the life sciences, health sciences, or social sciences are deemed as assets. Completion of professional development courses on research, project management, finances, and software programs to carry out work. Recent related experience in a collaborative, interdisciplinary research environment, including an understanding of research methodology and medical terminology.
Medium to high degree of computer literacy, including familiarity with UBC Library; Microsoft Office word processing, presentations, spreadsheets, database management, C&W Electronic Health Record, and internet resource use. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
Ability to independently prioritize and organize workload.
