QA/QC Engineer
Job description
Position Summary
We are looking for a detail-oriented Construction QA/QC Engineer to lead our quality assurance and quality control programs on-site. In this role, you will be the gatekeeper of project standards, monitoring day-to-day operations to guarantee that all work perfectly aligns with design blueprints, engineering specifications, and regulatory codes.
You will work closely with contractors and subcontractors, identifying deficiencies, issuing corrective actions, and ensuring that all trade specialists deliver top-tier craftsmanship safely and accurately.
Key Responsibilities
Site Inspection & Specification Alignment Monitor day-to-day operations on the job site to verify that all structural, civil, and architectural work aligns with approved design blueprints and engineering specs. Establish and execute comprehensive QA/QC inspection plans, checklists, and testing protocols at critical construction milestones.
Conduct field testing, review laboratory material reports (e.g., concrete strength, soil compaction), and approve raw materials arriving on-site. Interpret complex technical drawings, specifications, and codes to resolve quality-related ambiguities for field crews. Audit safety procedures during inspections to ensure work is being executed in compliance with OSHA standards and quality guidelines.
Contractor Quality Coordination & Accountability Collaborate with contractors, subcontractors, and laborers to communicate exact quality expectations before work begins. Issue Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) to contractors when work falls short of specifications, and direct the necessary repair or rework. Review contractor-submitted quality documentation, including Method Statements, Material Approval Requests (MARs), and Shop Drawings.
Coordinate with specialized subcontractors (e.g., MEP, structural steel) to witness testing and commissioning of critical systems. Track and verify that all corrective actions and rework are successfully completed by contractors before certifying project milestones.
Requirements
7+ years of experience as a QA/QC Engineer, Site Engineer, or Inspections Specialist on complex construction projects.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Construction Management, or a closely related field. Technical Proficiency: Advanced ability to read blueprints, structural details, and technical submittals, alongside familiarity with building codes and material testing standards. Leadership & Communication: Strong authority in enforcing standards, with excellent negotiation and conflict-resolution skills when managing contractor non-compliance.
Certifications: AWS, NACE, ACI, or equivalent specialized inspection certifications are highly desirable; OSHA 30-Hour certification preferred.
