Project Engineer
Job description
SUMMARY As a Project Engineer, you’ll serve as the senior technical backbone on project implementations — the expert who makes complex technology work across diverse environments. You’ll support Project Managers on deployments, migrations, and infrastructure upgrades, joining calls as the lead technical resource while the PM leads the client conversation.
This is a hands-on, fully remote role for a seasoned infrastructure professional capable of owning the technical design and execution of server, network, and cloud migration projects with minimal oversight.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Project Implementation & Technical Execution Lead deployments and configurations for Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016 environments. Design, set up, and manage Hyper-V hosts and virtualization infrastructure, including VMware ESXi/vSphere environments. Architect and deploy networking equipment: switches, access points, VLANs, VPNs, and routing/switching environments.
Deploy and troubleshoot SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, or Meraki firewalls. Manage core network infrastructure and advanced routing/switching configurations. Cloud, Security & Backup Lead Microsoft 365, Intune, and Azure (Entra ID, Azure AD, Azure VMs, Azure networking) deployments and migrations. Plan and execute cloud migrations.
Primarily to Azure, but with strong working knowledge of AWS environments. Configure SharePoint (on-premise and online) and modern collaboration platforms. Implement and troubleshoot BCDR, Veeam, and Barracuda backup solutions. Support SaaS backup configurations and disaster recovery tasks. Project Support Join project calls as the senior technical asset — providing expertise, scoping technical approach, answering complex technical questions, and guiding implementation steps while the Project Manager leads the meeting and client communication.
Collaborate with Project Managers, Sales, and technical teams to deliver projects on time and within scope. Mentor junior technicians and provide technical quality assurance on project work. Document all configurations, procedures, and client environments in the documentation platform.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Technical Skills Expert-level knowledge of Windows 10/11 and macOS. Expert-level knowledge of Windows Server 2025, 2022, 2019, and 2016 administration. Advanced, hands-on experience with Hyper-V virtualization and server administration. Strong working experience with VMware ESXi/vSphere and other virtualization environments.
Strong knowledge of networking: routing, switching, VLANs, VPNs, LAN/WAN, and SD-WAN concepts. Experience configuring and deploying firewalls (SonicWall, Fortinet, Cisco, or Meraki). Strong, hands-on experience with Microsoft 365, Intune, and Azure cloud services. Demonstrated experience planning and executing on-premise to cloud migrations (Azure required; AWS familiarity important).
Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions (Veeam, Barracuda, or similar BCDR platforms). Working knowledge of AWS core services (EC2, S3, networking, IAM) sufficient to support hybrid and multi-cloud projects. Scripting/automation familiarity (PowerShell required; Azure CLI or similar a plus). Required Experience & Qualifications 5–8+ years of IT infrastructure, systems engineering, or senior systems administration experience.
Proven track record leading or executing server, network, and cloud migration projects end-to-end. Experience working in a multi-client environment — managing diverse technology stacks, priorities, and service expectations across different organizations (MSP experience strongly preferred). Relevant certifications preferred: Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator/Solutions Architect, VMware VCP, CompTIA Network+/Security+, or equivalent.
Professional Skills Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent project tasks and priorities. Ability to work independently in a fully remote environment with minimal supervision. Clear written and verbal communication for documentation, client-facing technical discussions, and internal collaboration.
Ownership mindset: you take responsibility for technical deliverables from design through completion. Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills in complex, multi-vendor environments.
Nice to Have
Experience with VOIP telephony and Microsoft Teams. Experience with Autotask PSA or similar documentation platforms. On-premise and hybrid SharePoint administration experience. Experience with containerization or infrastructure-as-code a plus. Prior MSP experience managing diverse client environments. JOB REQUIREMENTS Should be willing to accept a long-term work-from-home arrangement.
Should be amenable to a permanent day shift schedule.
