Automotive Technician Installer I

JOB DESCRIPTION: AUTOMOTIVE TECH INSTALLER I PAY GROUP: 8 City of Seguin Pay Schedules SUMMARY OF POSITION: The Fleet Vehicle Installer I is an entry-level position that installs equipment and accessories in City Police and Fire vehicles, excluding ambulances and fire apparatus. Work follows approved specifications and Fleet Services standards to ensure safe, reliable installations with minimal vehicle downtime.

EXAMPLES OF WORK: Essential Duties* Performs tune-ups, oil changes, battery checks, tire and lubrication checks, and other preventive maintenance on city automotive and mechanical equipment; Installs emergency warning and lighting systems on Police and Fire vehicles according to department-approved specifications; Installs upfitting accessories on city fleet; Performs vehicle electrical wiring and connections necessary for the installation of emergency and specialty equipment; Test drives vehicles and equipment; Assists higher level technicians in any repairs or services; Assists in maintaining detailed vehicle maintenance records; Pick up parts and shop material from outside vendors; May be subject to after-hours calls; Other Important Duties* May attend education seminars; and Performs other duties as assigned; REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Entry-level knowledge of: automotive electrical systems and installation of emergency lighting Entry-level knowledge of: automotive repair (water pumps, alternators, power steering pumps, air brakes etc.)

Physical Ability to: lift and maneuver up to 85 lbs. (i.e. battery, bucket, etc.) and ascend and descend 30" high steps numerous times per day. Ability to : work with a variety of hand and power tools; establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers and other departments' personnel; and maintain a Texas driver's license and good driving record.

ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school graduation or its equivalent. Completion of automotive electrical, automotive technology, electronics, vocational, or related technical training is preferred. Previous experience with automotive electrical systems, vehicle accessory installation, emergency vehicle upfitting, communications equipment, or similar work is preferred but not required for entry-level consideration.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED: Valid State of Texas Class C driver's license and must be able to obtain a State of Texas Class B (commercial) driver's license within a year of employment. For full job description click on the attachment -Starting Salary: $20.66/hour
