Job description
Assistant Operations Manager Mission-Critical & Data Center Concrete Construction Silverback Concrete — “We’ve Got Your Back.” Department Commercial Projects — Concrete Operations Employment Type Full-Time, Exempt Work Location South Hill, VA Office Reports To Regional Director Compensation (DOE) Travel VA South Hill, VA About Silverback Concrete Silverback Concrete is a family-led commercial concrete subcontractor built on grit, accountability, and a client-first mindset.
We specialize in mission-critical and data center construction, self-performing structural and slab concrete scopes on some of the most demanding campuses in the country. Our reputation is earned in the field — through quality work, dependable schedule performance, and the kind of ownership that makes general contractors want us back on the next project.
As our data center work scales across Virginia and the broader Mid-Atlantic, we are expanding our project management bench with people who want to grow with the company. When we say “We’ve Got Your Back,” we mean it for our clients, our crews, and each other.
Position Summary
The Assistant Operations Manager owns crew housing and logistics for Silverback’s concrete operations across our Virginia, Oklahoma, and Florida projects, so field and project leadership can stay focused on building. Based out of our South Hill, VA office, this role takes a function that has been absorbing regional leadership’s time — sourcing and managing crew lodging, coordinating travel and mobilization, and keeping traveling crews housed, supplied, and on schedule — and runs it as a disciplined, cost-controlled program.
Working closely with the Regional Director, the General Superintendent, and site leadership, the Assistant Operations Manager forecasts housing and logistics needs against the manpower and pour schedule, manages leases and vendor relationships, directs local liaisons in each region, and keeps clean records so costs stay visible and decisions stay documented.
The result: crews arrive ready, housing is handled before the ramp, and leadership gets its time back for the strategic, cost-saving work only it can do. Core Duties & Responsibilities The Assistant Operations Manager runs crew housing and logistics as a program — planning ahead of the work, controlling cost, and keeping every arrangement documented.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Crew housing: Source, lease, and manage lodging for traveling crews across our Virginia projects — apartments, corporate housing, and extended-stay options — and handle move-ins, move-outs, and renewals as manpower ramps up and down.
- Logistics & mobilization: Coordinate crew travel, per diem, and mobilization and demobilization so crews arrive on time and ready, aligned to the manpower forecast and the pour schedule.
- Vendor & lease management: Negotiate and manage leases, hotels, utilities, and housing vendors; hold agreements to favorable terms and resolve issues before they reach the field.
- Local liaisons: Recruit, direct, and support local housing and logistics liaisons in each region, giving leadership a dependable point of contact on the ground.
- Cost control & forecasting: Track housing, travel, and per-diem spend against budget; forecast needs ahead of the ramp and find savings rather than defaulting to whatever is convenient.
- Planning with leadership: Partner with the Regional Director, General Superintendent, and PMs to turn the manpower and schedule outlook into a housing and logistics plan that is in place before crews are needed.
- Documentation & systems: Keep housing, logistics, and cost records organized and accessible in Procore and company systems, so arrangements, approvals, and spend are documented and easy to follow.
- Compliance & crew care: Ensure lodging meets safety, quality, and lease-compliance standards, and that crews are housed in conditions that reflect how Silverback treats its people. Expectations Success in this role is measured by crews landing in good housing on time, by cost kept in check, and by leadership getting its time back. We expect the Assistant Operations Manager to:
- Own crew housing and logistics end to end — plan ahead, and never let a crew arrive without a place to stay.
- Treat every dollar of housing, travel, and per-diem spend as if it were your own, and choose cost-effective over convenient.
- Be organized and disciplined about documentation — in this role, clean records keep costs visible and decisions defensible.
- Communicate early and often with regional leadership and site teams, and surface housing or logistics risks before they hit the schedule.
- Build and manage dependable local liaisons, and hold them to the same standard you hold yourself.
- Bring a service-minded, get-it-done attitude — this role exists to take a burden off the field and leadership and to give crews a good place to land. Required Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in operations, logistics, property or housing coordination, office management, or a related field — construction or another multi-site environment preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, vendors, and competing priorities across multiple locations at once.
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills, with the discipline to keep detailed records.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) and the ability to learn Procore.
- Comfortable negotiating leases and vendor agreements and holding them to terms.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel across VA as needed.
- Authorized to work in the United States.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience arranging crew housing, travel, or logistics for a construction, energy, or other traveling-workforce operation.
- Familiarity with mission-critical or data center construction and its manpower demands.
- Hands-on experience with Procore, property management software, or expense and travel systems.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus for coordinating with crews and local vendors. Physical Requirements & Work Environment This role is based in an office and requires regular travel to jobsites and housing locations across Virginia. The Assistant Operations Manager must be able to drive and travel for extended periods, walk active construction sites and housing units, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. While on-site, personal protective equipment (hard hat, safety glasses, high-visibility vest, and boots) is required. Reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of the position.
