Job description
We are seeking a Certified Medical Assistant Lead to join our team of professionals at Master Center for Addiction Medicine who are providing outpatient treatment to persons with substance use disorders as part of a collaborative, interdisciplinary treatment team. Master Center for Addiction Medicine is a private, outpatient addiction medicine treatment center based in Richmond, Virginia.
Our approach to addiction is comprehensive, evidence-based and individualized drawing on every tool that has been proven effective: medical treatment, education, psychiatry, professional counseling, testing/monitoring and peer support services. Our aim is not just to treat patients but to heal them – by helping each one find his or her way to lifelong recovery.
Become a member of our collaborative team of caring and compassionate professionals at Master Center for Addiction Medicine and you will be joining the field of comprehensive outpatient addiction medicine treatment, one of the fastest growing fields of medicine today. A comprehensive benefits package is offered to full-time employees.
Schedule: 8:30 am to 5:00 pm Site: Hampton, VA Pay Rate: $23 an hour Core Clinical Responsibilities Provide compassionate, trauma-informed and nonjudgmental patient care in an outpatient behavioral health and addiction-treatment setting. Obtain and accurately document vital signs; collect relevant patient histories, review of systems, medications and allergies for licensed clinical review.
Collect, document and route UDS, breath alcohol/mouth swab, pregnancy testing and other approved point-of-care tests in accordance with training, orders and current policies. Coordinate ordered laboratory testing and blood draws with providers, peer recovery staff and laboratory partners, including Precision Diagnostics; preserve patient identification, specimen integrity and required documentation.
Support medication-related workflows, logs, prior authorizations and injectable-treatment visits; assist with or perform clinical tasks only as permitted by applicable law, provider orders, demonstrated competency and approved protocols. Maintain timely, complete and accurate documentation in eCW; communicate pertinent results, exceptions and patient concerns to the appropriate licensed clinician.
Process internal and external medical records. Follow infection prevention, patient privacy/confidentiality, safety, CLIA-related testing requirements as applicable, and organizational policies including SUD-record safeguards. Lead / Coordination Responsibilities Coordinate the day-to-day work of medial support staff (MSS) within assigned site(s), including morning readiness, patient flow, task distribution and coverage adjustments in collaboration with the Nurse Manager.
Identify expected and same-day staffing, laboratory, equipment and supply gaps early; recommend the most appropriate coverage solution based on patient needs, staff competency, travel time, cost and impact on other locations. Act as first operational escalation point for MSS workflow barriers, unresolved urine/specimen processing, lab partner coordination, medication/injection readiness and incomplete documentation; elevate patient safety and clinical decisions promptly.
Maintain oversight of assigned MSS workflow checklists, daily testing/specimen queues, pending lab pickups/results handoffs, equipment readiness and supply/inventory issues; monitor completion rather than personally completing every task. Assist in orienting new MSS, schedule or coordinate approved training, support consistent implementation of standard procedures and report competency or performance concerns to the Nurse Manager.
Partner with Intake, Patient Services, providers, nursing and external partners to reduce delays, improve handoffs and support timely clinical operations. Provide concise weekly operational updates to the Nurse Manager, including barriers, open items, solutions attempted, risks and follow-up owners. Model accountable communication and professional judgment, including timely advance notice when additional coverage or management support is required.
Performance Standards
- Competence and Collaboration. The employee consistently demonstrates a positive work ethic and commitment to the organization demonstrating compassionate, goal-directed clinical services and functioning as an active team player. The employee actively participates in all required training and clinical and administrative meetings. The employee keeps their supervisor informed of important issues related to the delivery of services. 2.Credentials and certification. The employee takes full responsibility for initiating and maintaining all credentials and certifications, including certification with a medical assistant program and CPR certification. - Direct Services. The employee will provide person-centered individual patient care.
Qualifications
& Credentials Current recognized medical assistant credential (e.g., CMA, RMA, CCMA or NCMA), maintained in good standing, and education/training appropriate to assigned duties Current CPR/BLS certification as required by Master Center policy. Proposed minimum: 4 years of relevant medical-assisting experience, preferably including 1 year serving as a Senior CMA, trainer, preceptor or informal workflow lead.
Strong knowledge in EHR/EMR systems and documentation, clinical office flow, specimen and lab partner coordination, supply/medication tracking, escalation procedures and applicable testing protocols.
