Job Description: Segment: Food & Nutrition Location: Oud-Beijerland Contract type: permanent role Are you passionate about quality, innovation, and making a global impact behind some of the world's most loved brands? As Material Technologist within our Global Materials Team, you'll play a key role in ensuring our raw and packaging materials meet the highest standards of quality, food safety, compliance, and performance.

In this role, you'll own and manage our global Material Risk Assessment (MRA) portfolio, Pack Risk Assessments (PRAs), and material specifications, helping to build a robust and future-fit materials foundation across our business. You'll become a trusted expert in material functionality, driving consistency, standardization, and continuous improvement across our systems and processes.

Working closely with teams across R&D, Quality & Food Safety (Q&FS), Supplier Quality Assurance (SQA), Commercial, Innovation, and Supply, you'll help bring new ideas to life while protecting the quality and integrity of our products. What are your key responsibilities? The purpose of this role is to own their raw materials portfolios from Material risk assessments and specifications while leading the value leadership in primes workstream from ideation to execution.

This role also leads the compliance and governance of Packaging space including Packaging Risk Assessment and Packs Material Specifications. Create, Review and manage MRA’s for materials and PRAs of packaging materials. In close collaboration with relevant experts (e.g. Q&FS, PPPI, PD, Pack Dev, SQA etc.) identifying and managing Food Safety, Quality, Legal, Lifestyle, and Sensory hazards for Material, Supplier and Transport & Storage.

Applies knowledge of food ingredient stability and quality to evaluate their interactions and the impact on finished products. Support new and existing Raw Material specification development in close collaboration with relevant experts (PD, Q&FS, Commercial, Supply, Suppliers), incorporating Food Safety, Legal, Quality and Functional parameters and limits.

Support new and existing Packaging material specification development and ensures compliance aspects and system housing. Owning and supporting the packaging module for Packaging materials system. Lead packaging compliance KPIs and packaging regulatory compliance roadmap execution. Collaborate with suppliers in understanding the industry standards of the main ingredient categories.

Standardizing specifications across supplier base. Collaborate with PPPI and PD to maximize the benefits of the raw materials within their processing into final products. Becoming global materials expert in the category, utilizing expertise in material functionality in Value Leadership opportunities, standardization of the raw materials specs and exploring simplification opportunities.

Maintain relevant document Databases relevant to material management (Product Information Sheets, Supplier specifications, technical datasheets etc) using Nexus, SalesForce, Veritas, SharePoint and Microsoft Teams. Support the Mars Food Value Leadership agenda and Business Continuity by supporting in new opportunities involving material changes and potential future novel ingredients.

Ensure compliance and adherence to Mars internal and external standards and requirements and fulfilment of segment’s agenda and strategy towards compliance. Track and review progress of RA’s and Specifications within the regions to ensure timely execution and progress of the outputs. What are we looking for? Minimum of 3-5 years relevant industry experience preferably in raw or packaging material development background.

Understanding of food sciences, packaging, Food Law, Food processing and production knowledge is preferred. Ideally a good knowledge of MQM/PQM & HACCP, Microbiological, Chemical and Physical Hazards. A working knowledge with Veritas PLM System (Raws/Formulation) would be preferred Demonstrated understanding of key scientific principles associated with food & Raw/Pack materials.

Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively within multiple teams, in a fast-paced environment. Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
