  • Director of Fitness FLSA Classification: Non-Exempt, Part-Time Seasonal Supervises: No Pay Range: $17.50 per hour plus commission Created / Updated: August 2026 POSITION OVERVIEW The Personal Trainer provides high-quality one-on-one and small-group fitness instruction to members and guests, tailoring individualized fitness programs to meet their specific needs, goals, and fitness levels. This role is responsible for ensuring safe, effective workouts while promoting proper technique, providing motivation and support, and delivering an exceptional member and guest experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide one-on-one and small group fitness instruction tailored to individual member goals. Conduct fitness assessments and track client progress. Design personalized workout programs for members to follow during both supervised and unsupervised sessions. Perform administrative tasks related to fitness and wellness operations.

Motivate, encourage, and support members in achieving fitness and rehabilitation goals. Develop rehabilitation programs for clients recovering from injuries, in collaboration with medical professionals or other appropriate healthcare guidance. Demonstrate proper exercise techniques, movements, and equipment use. Ensure accurate completion of daily reporting for personal training services.

Assist with the execution of health initiative programs, specialty programs and other fitness and wellness initiatives designed to increase member participation and engagement. Inspect and maintain workout areas to ensure a safe and clean environment; promptly remove hazards and report equipment issues. Enforce facility rules and policies, including ensuring children do not enter designated workout areas.

Monitor member and guest use of group exercise and workout rooms to ensure compliance with facility policies. Maintain professional, positive, and service-oriented representation of Spa & Fitness operations. Leadership – Maintain a professional demeanor, exemplify company values, and represent departmental objectives.

Teamwork – Collaborate effectively with co-workers to provide outstanding service to members and guest. Safety – Follow established safe work practices and attend all required safety training. Other Duties – Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned to support the overall operations of the Spa and Fitness department, including, but not limited to, floor coverage and other tasks necessary to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.

Qualifications

Education

and/or Experience Undergraduate degree in Physical Education, Nutrition, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, or a related health, wellness or fitness field is preferred. At least one year of experience as a Personal Trainer in a gym, fitness facility, or private club setting. Understanding of how wellness modalities complement and support fitness and overall well-being.

Required Technical / Other Skills and Abilities Proficiency in the use and safe operation of fitness equipment. Ability to conduct fitness assessments and develop effective, individualized training programs. Knowledge of rehabilitation techniques and appropriate modifications for members recovering from injuries. Ability to demonstrate exercises with proper form and technique.

Strong communication, motivation, and member engagement skills. Understanding of emergency protocols and the ability to perform essential duties during emergency situations. Required Licenses/Certifications Certification from a recognized organization such as NSCA, ACE, NASM, ACSM, or an equivalent nationally recognized organization.

Current First Aid and CPR/AED certification is required. CSCS, TPI, Racquet. Fit or XPS certification is preferred.
