Commercial Lines Underwriter

Red Ember Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter on behalf of our client, based in Tyger Valley, Cape Town. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced underwriting professional with a strong background in Commercial and Agri-Commercial Lines to join an established financial services environment.

The successful candidate will be responsible for processing new business quotations, policy amendments and renewals, while ensuring sound underwriting decisions, excellent broker service and compliance with underwriting guidelines and internal service standards. Capture and process all underwriting, quoting, reinsurance and new-business information accurately within internal systems and required service level timelines.

Generate new business quotations in accordance with underwriting guidelines, risk appetite and required documentation. Prepare and deliver quotation schedules to brokers. Activate new Commercial and Agri-Commercial Lines policies on the administration system, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Provide professional and timely support to brokers by handling queries, underwriting requests, policy amendments and correspondence via telephone and email.

Build and maintain strong broker relationships by providing guidance on underwriting guidelines, product features and policy wordings. Maintain sound technical knowledge of Commercial and Agri-Commercial Lines policy wordings, endorsements and product structures. Ensure all underwriting activities comply with internal processes, risk appetite, quality standards, service levels and regulatory requirements.

Support colleagues during peak periods to ensure effective workflow and service delivery.

Requirements

NQF Level 4 qualification in Short-Term Insurance or a related qualification. Minimum of 5 years' Commercial and Agri-Commercial Lines underwriting experience within an insurance company or UMA.
