Accountant Specialist - Onsite

Client: City of Tempe, AZ | Job ID: 167237 Location: 20 E. 6th Street, Tempe, AZ (100% Onsite) Contract: 7+ Months | Schedule: Part-Time, 20 Hours/Week Pay Rate: $27/hour on W-2 Education: High School Diploma or equivalent Job Description The City of Tempe is seeking an Accountant Specialist to handle governmental accounting, financial reporting, account reconciliations, journal entries, fixed assets, depreciation, and month-end/year-end closing activities.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts and financial records.
• Prepare journal entries, financial reports, and account reconciliations.
• Support month-end/year-end closing and financial statement preparation.
• Manage fixed assets and record depreciation.
• Process transactions related to payroll, accounts payable, property taxes, and other accounting systems.
• Research cash discrepancies and maintain internal controls.
• Review employee travel requisitions and ensure accurate, compliant financial records. Required Qualifications
• Minimum 1 year of accounting or related experience, including governmental accounting.
• Knowledge of GAAP, financial statements, tax compliance, cost accounting, and budgeting.
• Proficiency in PeopleSoft, Workiva, DebtBook, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft 365.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and adapt to changing policies. Candidate Requirements
