Accounting Technician

About the Position: Serves as an Accounting Technician to the Finance and accounting Officer, St. Paul District. Please see more details below in Duties.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri. Corps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document . GS 07: One year of specialized experience which includes:

1. Track time and attendance for the district,
2. Reconcile outstanding transactions to general ledger accounts, and
3. Review and/or research financial/accounting processes and procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by
4. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by
5. Add the two percentages. GS-08: One year of specialized experience which includes:
6. Perform tasks in automated financial management systems and accounting systems,
7. Research current accounts, historical data, and/or source documents, and
8. Certify payments, maintain and control ledgers to control, record, and/or report status of funds. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: One and a half years of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Accounting. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by
9. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond one year (total semester hours minus 18) by
10. Add the two percentages. GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes:
11. Receive, review and/or process accounting transactions and requests,
12. Maintain monthly financial transactions to ensure timeliness and accuracy, and
13. Respond to inquiries regarding accounting data, discrepancies, and/or procedures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Arithmetic/Mathematical Reasoning Customer Service Decision Making Flexibility Integrity/Honesty Interpersonal Skills Reading Comprehension Self-Management Teamwork Time in Grade Requirement: GS 07: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-06). GS 08: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07). GS 09: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S.
