Role Purpose The Material Planner is responsible for managing and maintaining accurate production data (BOM, routing, specifications) within the MRP system to ensure: Correct production order issuance Efficient resource allocation On-time delivery The role works closely with Engineering, Planning, Purchasing, Warehouse, and Logistics teams to maintain smooth production flow and data integrity.

Key Responsibilities

1. MRP Data Management Maintain, update, and validate production specifications, BOMs, and routings in MRP (e.g., AS400) Ensure master data reflects latest engineering changes and product configurations Standardize data entry formats to minimize system errors
2. Engineering & Specification Review Review engineering drawings and technical specifications before data entry Verify part numbers, materials, dimensions, and process steps Ensure all specifications are accurately reflected in MRP
3. Production Order Management Generate, release, and monitor production orders in MRP Align orders with planning schedules and resource availability Coordinate with production supervisors on sequencing, lot size, and timelines Expedite urgent orders when required
4. Procurement & Material Coordination Collaborate with Purchasing/Expediting teams to ensure materials availability Support resolution of mismatches between BOM and purchase orders Identify and escalate material shortages early
5. WIP Tracking & Discrepancy Resolution Track WIP status in both MRP and the production floor Investigate discrepancies between system and physical inventory Ensure timely closure of completed orders
6. Data Integrity & Audit Control Conduct regular audits on BOM, routing, and master data Identify obsolete or incorrect records and correct them Ensure compliance with document control and quality procedures
7. Cross-Functional Coordination Liaise with Engineering, QA, Warehouse, and Logistics teams Ensure smooth information flow across departments Support alignment on production schedules and requirements
8. Training & System Support Provide guidance on proper MRP usage Support onboarding and training of new staff Develop reference guides/checklists for data entry
9. Quality & Compliance Ensure all data updates follow approval processes Coordinate with QA to align specifications and quality standards Maintain compliance with company policies and audit requirements Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) BOM accuracy Production order release timeliness Material shortage escalation effectiveness Schedule adherence WIP discrepancy resolution rate
