Project Specialist
Job description
MSM North America is seeking a detail-oriented and resourceful Project Specialist to support project planning, business operations, activities, and program execution across our growing organization. This position works closely with program leadership and cross-functional teams to evaluate project requirements, develop execution plans, identify operational challenges, and recommend solutions that support successful project delivery.
The ideal candidate brings strong analytical and organizational skills, experience supporting complex projects, and the ability to exercise independent judgment in managing assigned responsibilities within a dynamic defense contracting environment.
What You'll Do
Support project planning and execution. Independently manage assigned project activities, evaluate requirements, establish work plans, and recommend approaches to support project objectives.
Analyze project requirements. Review customer requests, project documentation, and contractual requirements to identify operational considerations, resource needs, and potential execution challenges.
Support proposal development. Evaluate proposal requirements, coordinate cross-functional inputs, develop supporting project materials, and recommend approaches to address customer needs and submission requirements.
Evaluate project performance. Analyze schedules, milestones, deliverables, and performance information to identify trends, assess potential risks, and recommend corrective actions.
Coordinate cross-functional initiatives. Work with program leadership, engineering, operations, contracts, finance, and supply chain to evaluate dependencies, resolve coordination challenges, and support execution priorities.
Develop project reporting. Prepare project assessments, management reports, schedules, and presentations that provide meaningful analysis and recommendations to support leadership decisions.
Support resource and cost planning. Assist with evaluating resource requirements, project estimates, and cost information to identify potential constraints and recommend adjustments.
Improve business processes. Evaluate existing project management practices, identify opportunities for greater efficiency, and recommend improvements to workflows, reporting, and documentation.
Manage assigned responsibilities. Exercise independent judgment in prioritizing activities, determining appropriate approaches, and resolving project-related challenges within established authority.
Support project lifecycle activities. Contribute to project initiation, planning, execution, performance evaluation, and closeout activities as business needs evolve.
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's degree in business administration, project management, operations, engineering, or a related field preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
3-5 years of applicable experience in project management support, program operations, contract administration, business operations, or a related professional environment.
Demonstrated experience analyzing project requirements, coordinating complex activities, and developing recommendations to support business objectives.
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate information and recommend effective solutions.
Experience managing multiple priorities and assigned projects with limited day-to-day supervision.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present information and recommendations to internal stakeholders.
Ability to exercise sound judgment, take initiative, and adapt to changing project requirements.
Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate, organized project records.
Experience supporting government contracts, defense programs or technically complex projects is preferred.
